How To Become A Make-Up Model?: Easy Steps and Advice
Being a makeup model, or a model for a makeup company, is something that many women (and even some men) want to become. If you are a makeup model, your chief task is to pose in front of a camera while wearing various products such as lipsticks, eyeliners, mascaras, lotions, powders, etc. What is the effect? Other people will then see how beautiful they will become when they wear the make-up themselves. If you make others feel that way, then you are successful in being a model. Growth and interaction opportunities exist in makeup modeling. Growth in the job comes because you get to sample many different products, and doing so requires you to master many different ways of facing the camera. Interaction comes from dealing with other people on the job all day, especially makeup artists and fellow models, and also off the job, where people may just recognize you.
1. Know whether the lifestyle of a makeup model fits you. Ask yourself if you have the patience and the endurance needed in becoming a model for makeup. There are instances where your schedules may become tight, so ask yourself if you are ready for those situations. You can look online for others’ experiences regarding makeup modeling, or you can ask for honest answers from some models you know yourself. Also, ask yourself if you are comfortable with many people looking at you in public.
3. Grow your portfolio. This portfolio should contain any modeling pictures you have. However, what if you have no modeling experience yet? Here are some steps that enable you to get the experience you need:
(a) Find a local studio that will take your pictures. Before that, put makeup that makes your face look good. Before picture-taking, tell the photographer that your goal is to become a makeup artist so that the pictures will emphasize your face with the makeup. Better yet, hire a studio where there is a lighting expert who will focus on your eyes, lips, and cheeks – the parts of your face where makeup is most likely to be applied.
(c) Find a local beauty shop and volunteer to be one of their models. You are lucky if you get paid while doing this, but bear in mind that your main purpose is to build up your portfolio.
4. Find an agent. After you gain a respectable portfolio, it is time to look for an agent. Send out samples of your modeling work to various modeling agencies. Look for modeling agents in the Internet. Create a cover letter and resume. Have your portfolio ready at any time. Make sure that you tell the agent that you intend to become a makeup model, but if other modeling opportunities are offered, you can take them too. Be sure that in your chosen career path you become a makeup model.
If an agent mentions upfront fees so that you can become a model, back away. More often than not, that agent is a scammer.
Once you become a makeup model, stick to productive work habits. Be worthy of being a model by eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, and being neat all the time. Once you become famous, be happy but do not let your fame get into your head; always strive to improve as a model.
